You will be hard up to find somebody who does not have a Netflix sub. Whether you use it to binge totally binge worthy original programming ( Stranger Things, OITNB ) or use it as an educational tool ( we use it for our home-school ) it’s a safe bet that you will find just what tickles your fancy on Netflix. So, what are we watching? I’m so glad you asked…
If you have known me for any amount of time you know that I am completely enamored with Stranger Things ( now in its 2nd season ). It has nostalgia, lovable characters, superb acting and for a horror lover like myself it offers some creepy, scary goodness ( which is totally appropriate for older kids ). My oldest 2 absolutely love the show and would happily sit in front of the computer all day watching it ( they don’t though ).
With seasoned vets like Winona Ryder, Matthew Modine and Sean Astin ( 2nd season ) and extremely talented newcomers like Finn Wolfhard ( catch him in the new IT movie also ), Millie Bobby Brown ( 011 ) Caleb Mclaughlin and our favorite Gaten Matarazzo it is easy to see why this has quickly become a fan favorite. It has been renewed for its 3rd, and final season ( insert sad face ). Which has been pushed back because one of its stars, David Harbour , has been cast as the new Hell Boy. This gem is definitely binge worthy so grab snacks and settle in.
Netflix has been hitting it out of the park with its original programming. OITNB ( or Orange is The New Black ) for all of you who aren’t hip to Netflix lingo, is an amazingly dark, funny and sometimes raunchy original show. Deliciously inappropriate ( make sure the littles are fast asleep before hitting play ) it is not unheard of to laugh, cry and cheer all in the same episode. The show follows the true story of Piper Kerman ( Piper Chapman in the show and played by the talented Taylor Schilling ) on her journey through prison life. With a cast full of amazing actresses such as:
- Taylor Schilling – Piper Chapman
- Uzo Aduba – Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren
- Danielle Brooks – Tasha “Tasty” Jefferson
- Selenis Leyva – Gloria Mendoza
- Kate Mulgrew – Galina “Red” Reznikov
- Taryn Manning – Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Dogget
- Natasha Lyonne – Nicky Nichols
And so many more ( seriously, I would be here forever ). It is now in its 5th ( waiting anxiously for the 6th ) and with a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes ( yeah that’s a good thing ) and a 8.2 out of 10 on IMDb ( also very good ) it is easy to see why this show is such a big hit.
For The Toddlers
I have a 2 ( soon to be 3 ) and a 4 year old. While I do not let them veg out in front of a screen on a regular basis they do sometimes like to spend the day ( again, not on a regular basis ) binging their favorite shows and movies. One of their faves is The Magic school bus, yes you read that right. Not only is The magic School Bus fun it’s also educational, score 1 for mom! I am fairly certain that you have heard of this show, some of you may have even watched it when you were younger. I love when I find a show that not only entertains my littles but also teaches them something, I feel like I’ve won at momming if I make this happen. Netflix is such a vital tool in our home-school, like a lot of other home-schooling families. Mrs Frizzle teaches her students the ins and outs of science with the help of her tricked out school bus and her lizard pal Liz.
For Older Kids
My 10 year old (Boy) and 12 year old (girl) cannot agree on ANYTHING, except their favorite show, Bunk’d. Starring the kids from Disney’s Jessie ( the have grown! ). I have to admit, I also love this show. It’s just so much fun and allows for some quality time with my 2 oldest, who sometimes think their mom is uncool. Staring:
- Peyton List – Emma Ross
- Karan Brar – Ravi Ross
- Skai Jackson – Zuri Ross
Bunk’d tells the story of siblings Emma, Ravi and Zuri who go to camp Kikiwaka. The same camp where their parents met as teens. What follows is fun, laughs, food fights and young love ( cue the ewws from the kids ). It is a cute and funny show that parents can watch with their kids, what’s not love?
so there you have it, what we’re watching on Netflix right now. What are you watching? Any guilty pleasures you care to share with us? Let us know in the comments. Thank you for stopping by and if you enjoyed this post please share.
