Once in a lifetime a show comes strolling along, all sweet and innocent. It then proceeds to punch you in the face. I had seen trailers for Netflix’s newest original series floating around the interwebs while I was looking at kitty videos…ahem, moving right along. I was mildly interested. A Facebook friend posted a “you have to watch this” post, so I did. I was hooked within the first five minutes.
Set in the early 80’s. A group of boys ( think Stand by Me and IT) set on a adventure of epicness when Will, played by Noah Schnapps, dissappears into thin air. What follows is a Rollercoaster ride with ups, downs, twists and loopty loops.
It is a mix of Goonies, IT, Stand by Me, Firestarter, and Silent Hill. Complete with your ragtag group of boys, a mysterious girl whose name is 011 and has “super powers”,the frantic over worked mom played brilliantly by Winona Ryder, government experiments,a parallel universe known as the upside down. A sheriff who is coping with the loss of his own daughter, due to illness. All these things, and more make this show a must watch.
It thrusts you smack dab into the 80’s complete with clothes, music, and that campy horror that was so prevalent.
