I was researching some kid friendly haunted houses in my area and surprisingly there are none. Now I am a HUGE fan of this holiday (it’s my fave) and love any and everything related to horror. It can be too scary for a small child to go into a haunted house meant for older kids and adults. You want them to be able to experience the thrill without the scare. So what do you do?
Haunt Your Home
Why not turn a room in your home into a Spooky Room. Decorate with kid friendly Halloween decorations
Spooky Movie Night
This is our Halloween tradition. We make popcorn and hot cocoa and snuggle in for some not so scary movies . Our Playlist includes
- Hocus Pocus
- Halloween Town
- The Addams Family (both)
- It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
Buzzfeed.com has an awesome list complete with what scenes may be too scary for the little ones.
Day Time Spooks
Doing a Google search for kid friendly Halloween activities in North Carolina brought up a page full of Spooky mazes and hayrides. While it wasn’t a haunted house it’s still a great idea for a daytime excursion. Some of my favorites are
- McKee’s Cornfield Maze
- Naylor Family Farm and Giant Corn Maze
- Clayton Halloween Hayride
- Crossroads Plaza Halloween Boofest
I do highly recommend Google search I swear it is a lifesaver.
Trunk OR Treat
Instead of the traditional trick or treating we now have Trunk OR Treat. A safer alternative to it’s traditional counterpart. kids go from car to car visiting each spookily decorated trunk and get their sweet treats. Many car dealerships have this type of event. we are going to one down the road from us this year.
Whatever your family decides to do this Halloween just remember to have fun and be safe.
Thanks for stopping by.
